Finding the Dark Corners Electropop
Born in New York City, Melanie Martinez dreamt of singing from a very young age. She was very artistic growing up, involved in painting, photography, poetry, and music. When she was still a high school student she auditioned for NBC's TV talent show The Voice. Three of the four coaches invited her to their team, but she chose to work with Adam Levine of Maroon 5. She made it to week five of the competition before being eliminated. Capitalizing on the encouragement and publicity of her stint on The Voice, Melanie Martinez released "Dollhouse" in 2014. Her first full-length album, Cry Baby, was released the following year, the music driven by the concept of a dark, twisted underbelly to the 'perfect' American life. Melanie Martinez's music blends the saccharine and the ominous, creating dark lullabies. Her style was a perfect match for American Horror Story: Freak Show, which sampled her music in promos for the show.
The K-12 Tour
2019 proved to be a big year for the singer as she released her second album K-12 in September. Being her first drop of music since her widely successful debut album Cry Baby, fans were eager to see Melanie perform live once again. The highly anticipated tour kicked off in October at the All Things Go Fall Classic, with her headlining that event. From October to December she weaved her way around the world giving fans a taste of the new album. Stops included Atlanta at the Coca-Cola Roxy, Detroit at The Filmore, New York at the Manhattan Center, and Anaheim at the House of Blues. Martinez took her music across the pond in December performing throughout Europe. Along with the release of her album came an accompanying full-length film. The K-12 tour brought the feature film to life on the stage as Martinez performed the songs throughout her sets. In a fun, safe environment fans got to experience something like never before.
