The Reading Festival's origin story starts in the 1950s, when the Beaulieu Jazz Festival was the place for the countercultural youth scene. In 1961 the Beaulieu Jazz Festival was replaced by the National Jazz Festival, which was not exclusively jazz in nature. In 1971 the fest settled in at Reading, where organizers set up a star-studded lineup of artists across the rock and blues genres. The 2017 Reading Festival will be headlined by Kasabian, Eminem, Muse, Bastille, and Major Lazer, continuing the march of superstars across the main stage. From headlining acts to comedy showcases, underground and breakthrough artists to a dance tent, the Reading Festival is packed with premier entertainment. It's been so successful that in 1999 the organizers founded the Leeds Festival, which follows the same lineup as its sister event in Reading.
