History

The Panama National Football Team are members of the CONCACAF Confederation under the Panamanian Football Federation. The team plays their home games at the Estadio Rommel Fernandez in Panama City, and they are often nicknamed The Canal Men. Throughout their existence the team has had bouts of decline as well as bouts of success. Although the team has never won a CONCACAF Gold Cup, they did finish as the runners-up in both 2005 and 2013, when they lost to the United States both times. In 2018 the team qualified for their first FIFA World Cup, although their performance was nowhere near where they anticipated it would be. They ended up losing the first three matches of the tournament, only scoring a handful of goals for the whole tournament. They ultimately finished in dead last for the entire tournament, marking it their worst performance in a tournament ever. In 2019 the Panama National Football Team qualified for the CONCACAF Gold Cup and were placed into Group D where they faced off against Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana, and the United States.
