Dynamic Powerhouse

The Brazilian National Soccer team got their start in 1914 playing international friendly games against countries like Argentina, Chile, and Uruguay. During their early years the team saw very little success, often being defeated in any game that they played. However, in 1919 and again in 1922 they were able to win the South American Championships. In 1930 Brazil was one of the few teams to compete in the very first World Cup tournament. They were ultimately eliminated from the tournament by Yugoslavia, but they went on the make appearances once again in 1934 and 1938. After 27 years between winning any title in the sport, the Brazilian National Soccer team won their third South American Championship game. A change in tone came to the national team in 1950 when they hosted the FIFA World Cup on their home soil. The team ended up in the finals, and they even went to the final game of the series against Uruguay, although they ended up losing the game sending the nation into a period of mourning. They qualified once again for the World Cup in 1954 with a new team made up of star players, although they were eliminated in the quarter finals by Hungary. In 1958 the team won their first World Cup title against Sweden, effectively launching the Golden Era for the Brazilian National Soccer team. They would go on to win the title again in 1962 and 1970 before they were plagued with yet again another dry spell. From 1974 to 1990 the team struggled to finish strong in any game, resulting in them qualifying for big name tournaments but never being able to bring home the title. After 24 years of not participating in a World Cup final, Brazil qualified in 1994 and brought home the title against Italy. The team won their most recent World Cup title in 2002 against Germany. The Brazilian National Team has also made their fair share of appearances in Olympic Games, winning on their home soil in 2016. Today the team is one of the most successful in the FIFA organization and they are currently ranked number three in FIFA Rankings.
