The Mets trounce the Marlins -On July 8, 2006, the Mets and the Marlins met each other at the Shea Stadium. In front of a crowd of 41,477 on the day, the Mets were simply unstoppable. They went on a rampage and destroyed the Marlins 17-3 in a season that saw them win their fifth division championship.

Lightning strikes twice - The New York Mets started the 2007 season quite strongly. With only seventeen games remaining, they had a seven game cushion in the division. Their form however nosedived and they went on to lose twelve of their next seventeen encounters. The Mets were ousted on the final day of the season by the Marlins at the Shea Stadium. Then in 2008, which was the Mets’ last campaign at the Shea Stadium, they had a lead of 3.5 games over the Philadelphia Phillies with the last seventeen games left. They lost ten of those but could still make the playoffs as a wild card team. Those hopes ended at the Shea Stadium on the last day of the season when their nemesis from 2007, the Florida Marlins won that game 4-2.
