About Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey was born on March 27, 1969 in Huntington, New York. Amidst her parents divorcing at a young age, Mariah immersed herself into music to cope with the stress. When she reached high school, she began to write her own music, and with the help of her Opera singing mother she was able to perfect her whistle register. After failing to land a record deal Mariah met a rising singer by the name of Brenda Starr who helped introduce her to the record label that would eventually sign her and bring her to commercial success. With her new record label promoting her to compete alongside Whitney Houston and Madonna, they funneled millions of dollars into promoting her debut album Mariah Carey. A tactic that proved to be successful, as it launched her to the top, winning her two Grammy Awards. From that moment on Mariah Carey has been a powerhouse of a female vocalist, landing several songs on the top of the charts as well as bringing home several awards. Throughout her career some of her most noteworthy singles include “Dreamlover”, “Without You”, “All I Want for Christmas Is You”, and “Always Be My Baby”. Today Mariah Carey is noted as one of the early pioneers of contemporary R&B, as well as being the influence of many singers of the next generation.
