About Christina Aguilera
Christina Aguilera was born on December 18th, 1980 in Staten Island. Growing up her father was in the military which resulted in her relocating several times throughout her childhood. To cope with the turbulent upbringing, she turned to music. Ultimately her family settled down just outside of Pittsburgh and she began competing in talent shows and competitions. She would also regularly perform the national anthem at the pregame ceremonies for the Pittsburgh area teams including the Penguins, the Steelers, and the Pirates. In 1991 she auditioned to be on The Mickey Mouse Club but was ultimately rejected because she was too young for the show. Two years later she was accepted into the show and she starred alongside Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake. After the show was cancelled in 1994, Aguilera was forced to find work elsewhere. In 1998 she sent in a clip of her singing to Walt Disney Pictures in hopes of being the artist they used for the theme song of the movie Mulan. Aguilera’s cover of “Reflection” attracted the attention of several record labels who were quick to sign her to a deal. Her debut single was “Genie in a Bottle” and it became an overnight sensation, eventually making it one of the best-selling singles in the world. Her debut album soon followed and included other singles “What a Girl Wants”, and “Come On Over Baby (All I Want Is You)”. The album would win Christina her first ever Grammy Award for Best New Artist. Today Aguilera is recognized as one of the best-selling artists of all time, and she has even earned herself the nickname of “Pop Princess”.
