The Detroit Tigers baseball team hails from Detroit, Michigan. The Detroit Tigers first took the field on April 25th, 1901, and this blue and orange team has been in existence for over 100 years. In the early years of baseball this Michigan team was known as the Detroit Wolverines in 1881 and the team was a member of the National League. Later on the University of Michigan became known as the Wolverines, taken from "the Wolverine State, (Michigan). The team disbanded in 1890 until 1896 when they were revived and became known as the Detroit Tigers.
