The Portland International (PDX) airport is approximately 12 miles from downtown Portland. It can be reached by taking the I-5 North or I-205 North when traveling from the south and the I-5 South or I-205 South when traveling from the north. From the east take I-84 and from the west take Highway 26. When traveling to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) flights usually last for little over four-and-a-half hours. The destination airport is about 11 miles from downtown New Orleans, which can be reached via taxicabs, airport shuttles or the Airport-Downtown Express.

Soak in the atmosphere of Jackson Square, which is often referred to as the heart and soul of the French Quarter. Don't neglect a visit to the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, or the Louisiana State Museum at the Cabildo. A visit to above ground cemeteries such as Lafayette Cemetery and St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 are also recommended. Thanks to the humid climate of New Orleans, it is advisable to pack breathable fabrics and lightweight clothing. It rains a lot here too, so packing a waterproof jacket or umbrella is a must. Bourbon Street hotels tend to be noisy and expensive, so it is often better to opt for the Arts District, or Garden District when booking a hotel.
