Cheap flights from Los Angeles to Johannesburg

Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is 20 miles west from downtown LA down the I-110/I-105, though there is also a subway available. Flight duration is over 21 hours to Johannesburg International Airport (JNB).

JNB is about 35 miles east of downtown Johannesburg and there are taxis parked out front of the terminal that will take you there in about an hour, keeping traffic in mind. There are sadly no reliable public transportation options.

Attractions and Tips

Johannesburg has a few museums for visitors, such as the Apartheid Museum that focuses on South Africa's darker past and tries to draw lessons from it, and the Victorian House, which transports guest through time to a very different age, indeed.

As a hub for wildlife safaris in the surrounding countryside, though, few cities can beat JoBurg and there are many tour operators offering trips to parks like Pilanesberg and Monte Casino.

The city has an interesting nightlife as well with bars, nightclubs and top of the line restaurants offering all kinds of exotic foods, including crocodile.

Johannesburg has great weather all year round, so pack lightweight clothes, however, it can get a little chilly in winter at times.
