Dallas/Ft Worth International (DFW) is about 19 miles from downtown Dallas. You can reach the airport using TX-183 W or Highway 114 W. When you're going from DFW to Punta Cana (PUJ), flights usually last for seven-and-a-half hours without stops. You can rent a car or catch a taxi right at PUJ, and some hotels offer free shuttle services for guests from the airport. Punta Cana is reached from the airport via Route 3 or Carr Aeropuerto.
Punta Cana is known for its beaches and golfing. Bavaro and Macao Beaches are popular with visitors, and you can ride horses right on a beach at Rais Ranch. Favorite golf spots include Punta Espada Golf Course, Hard Rock Golf Club and Iberostate Bavaro Golf and Club.
If you're looking for water or other outdoor activities, you can try Hoyo Azul and the Indigenous Eyes Ecological Park. Isla Catalina is just 50 miles away, and features snorkeling and the famous Chavon River, parts of which were used in the filming of classic movies "Jurassic Park," "Rambo" and "Apocalypse Now".
The climate of Punta Cana is warm, with temperatures averaging around 80 degrees. While it's well protected because of its geographic location, Punta Cana is subject to a hurricane season that peaks in the months of September and October. Travelers usually stay in resort areas near the municipality's beach areas.
