Whether your flight from Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD) to General Francisco J. Mujica International Airport (MLM) is for a business trip or a leisurely vacation, you’ll find there's a lot to do. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Morelia, Mexico, has plenty of historic attractions at your disposal, and you can pick up a rental car at the airport for your drive into the city.
Cultural attractions include the Morelia Cathedral, the Regional Museum of Michoacán, and the Museum of Colonial Art. Local artisans sell handcrafts at Morelia's street markets, galleries, shops and in the town of Paracho, famous for its handmade candy. Some of the area's best restaurants can be found in the historic center of the city, including Lu.
If you want to explore further, Morelia is a hub for cultural festivals in the city and at venues around the state. The Pátzcuaro Lake region boasts forests, extinct volcanoes and quaint villages. The town of Pátzcuaro has buildings that date back to the 1500s. Morelia is approximately 41 miles southwest of Pátzcuaro, with easy access by Highway 14.
The flight between ORD and Morelia takes almost four hours. Once you pick up your rental car, head south on Highway 120, and you'll be in the city proper in about 15 minutes.
