About Lynyrd Skynyrd
One of the most iconic bands of the 1970s, Lynyrd Skynyrd was at the vanguard of Southern rock and roll. With electric live concerts and wildly popular singles like "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Free Bird," Lynyrd Skynyrd quickly developed a cult following around the world. The Rise of Southern Rock
Started by teenage friends in 1964 in Jacksonville, Florida, the band tried several names before settling on Lynyrd Skynyrd, a thinly-veiled mockery of their strict PE teacher Leonard Skinner. Within a few years Lynyrd Skynyrd had gained local celebrity status. Their first album, released in 1973, was so successful it became RIAA gold-certified. Their blues rock and roll sound swept the international music scene and their drug and booze-fueled lifestyle added to their devil-may-care personas.
Disaster and Revival
Tragedy struck the band in 1977 when their charter plane crashed in Mississippi, killing Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, Cassie Gaines, and three others. Lynyrd Skynyrd went on immediate hiatus. In the following years, the members pursued other projects. In 1987, Lynyrd Skynyrd reformed with five of the previous band members, as well as Ronnie’s younger brother Johnny.
While the lineup of Lynyrd Skynyrd has continued to change over the years, the band's commitment to their Southern rock sound has not. Fans still rush to Lynyrd Skynyrd concerts. Buy your cheap Lynyrd Skynyrd tickets today to experience the raw fun and passion of Southern rock for yourself!
