Our stay was absolutely unacceptable. At 1:30 am, right after the lights went out, we discovered a bed bug crawling in the bed toward us. We immediately packed up, garbage-bagged anything that had been on the floor, woke our sleeping 2-year-old, and left the hotel. What should have been a quick exit turned into a stressful ordeal lasting until 3:00 am—stripping at the door, carrying my son inside, showering in the middle of the night, and leaving all of our bags, clothes, and even food in the car out of fear of bringing bed bugs into our home.
The most disturbing part wasn’t just the infestation, but the manager Angela’s complete lack of care or concern. The only response I received was that ‘they are investigating and it will take a few days to get back to me.’ This is unacceptable for a situation that directly impacts health, safety, and peace of mind.
It’s also not surprising the hotel recently changed its name from Holiday Inn to Birchwood without changing management—clearly, the same problems remain. Unfortunately, this experience showed their true colours, and I would never recommend this property to anyone!
