Truth is we never had the chance to stay at this property, but I did book it and could only get to this point in the review by choosing stars. I have no idea what really happened, but it seems both VRBO and the host failed. I made my reservation 10 months in advance for my son's graduation, knowing how difficult it is to secure accommodations during that very busy weekend. ALL ALONG my app showed "booked" - I paid the deposit and the host emailed me stating that he was looking forward to hosting us. Months later I began to wonder why I hadn't paid anything further and three days before we were supposed to leave, I could not find an actual confirmation from the host. Should I have caught this sooner? Yes, but I had done this so early that significant time had passed before the host would have contacted me for the remaining payments, and my app was still showing "booked". VRBO claims the host never confirmed with them and consequently double-booked the property stating there was a "technical glitch" and therefore they would not honor my reservation. I still have no answer as to why VRBO never followed up with the host since, according to them, the property was booked by me. The host was very cold about my situation and barely apologized. VRBO was very communicative however and finally refunded my money but I will never fully trust them again, and will certainly be much more thorough in following up going forward.
