Domaine de Priesmont

There are very vague historical references to a residence for priests on Mount Priesmont. The mansion itself, however, was built because of the beautiful view and as a starting point for hunting. Vielsalm was known as the place for hunting with horses and dogs in Belgium. This is called a “Rally” or “Drijfjacht.” In Vielsalm, there were three well-known rallies: the Vielsalm Rally, the Priesmont Rally, and the Ardenne Rally. Each rally was associated with specific families who maintained the hunting lodges. Horses, dogs, and staff were brought to Vielsalm specifically for the hunts. The lodges were designed to host guests, and it goes without saying that many placed greater emphasis on the hospitality than on the hunt itself. Today, Vielsalm is a pleasant vacation town, with bakeries, supermarkets, restaurants, and banks to serve the many tourists. In addition to Center Parcs, there are many walking trails and activities. Vielsalm has been the most visited tourist destination in Wallonia in recent years.
