SUNIO CITY HOTEL TIJUANA – Honest Review (Couples & Families Please Read)
Let me share my experience at Sunio City Hotel Tijuana, especially if you’re traveling as a couple or with family.
We booked through Expedia and initially felt we got a great deal. I travel frequently for work—over 40 hotel nights a year—and I’m a Marriott Bonvoy Elite member, so this review is not coming from a place of bias or unrealistic expectations (January 2026 stay).
Who doesn’t like saving money, right? Unfortunately, in this case, it wasn’t worth it.
Check-in took about 10 minutes, which was understandable due to ID verification for all guests. The lobby looked decent—nothing luxurious, but acceptable.
That said, things quickly went downhill.
The hotel uses physical keys instead of key cards, and the rooms have no phone or additional security lock, which immediately felt unsafe. The parking garage looks extremely dated, with low ceilings—be careful if you’re driving a larger vehicle.
As we walked to our room, I noticed multiple people standing outside their rooms openly soliciting. This made me very uncomfortable, especially since I was traveling with my wife and two young kids. The hallways are tight, and at one point we passed around 10–15 men blocking the walkways. We appeared to be the only family on the property—major red flags.
