I only stayed one night, and arrived very late. I was traveling solo and immediately felt unsafe when I pulled up to the hotel. The surrounding area is run down and there are a lot of homeless around. If it hadn’t been so late, I would have gone and stayed somewhere else. I do understand that the hotel can not control things off their property and in the area, but unfortunately I would not recommend staying here.

You can walk to the lake in 2 minutes which is nice. The area is run down with questionable people including drug addicts. The Hotel is dated but was clean with decent rooms and facilities. The breakfast was good. The staff was friendly.

A valiant effort to upgrade an older property

They say that you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, but the Superior Shores is a valiant attempt. For decades, this property was one of the worst hotels in Thunder Bay. BW has completely renovated it, and it is now a very good place to stay. I don't really think they could have done better, but the limitations of the old structure are apparent, resulting in some cramped spaces, and a bit of old and tired appearance peeking through the new decor. Service was great, breakfast was mid, price was reasonable, and the location next to the waterfront is nice, but the neighbourhood is not great.
