We’ve come to this property on three different occasions and the staff, ambience, cleanliness and attention to detail is just top notch. The best of the best is your pool waitress Sheila Mendez, not only is informative, enthusiastic, and very attentive; she is overall amazing she makes our stay that much more enjoyable. We look forward to seeing her every year we go because it is guaranteed that not only she remembers us but she treats us like family which is always a plus.

The lobby, pool, and beach areas are great. The rest of the hotel sucks. When I arrived, the only the beds were clean. The rest of my room was dusty and I found a pair of used boxers hanging in the closet. The drawer in the bathroom is broken, so using it was difficult because it would get stuck. The soap/shampoo/conditioner the hotel provided smelled more like alcohol than soap. Don't use room service because they hit you with 3 fee types just to have it delivered to your room. On Friday, the main cleaning lady for my room had the day off. From Mon-Thurs my room was cleaned and organized, but Friday the different cleaning lady caught attitude with me when I told her I'd be leaving in 10 minutes. As I left my room I overheard her saying in Spanish to one of the other workers, "I'm going to show them what happens when you want to take your time". I returned that night from an excursion and my room was not cleaned and we had NO towels. We found the linen closet on our own. The Banyan Tree Grill in the hotel sucked. I ordered mahi-mahi fish tacos and the fish was WAY overcooked and it got both my brother and I really sick. It seemed like the overcooking of fish was common, because when I told the waiter that I had a complaint about the tacos, he quickly said, "oh, was the fish overcooked". If he knew, it should've not been served. After I left the hotel I noticed a double charge on my CC for my room and no one has answered the phone to clarify the charges. Not worth the price!

Booked The Fairmont El San Juan specifically for the casino (Sept 21–24, 2025, via Expedia), but it was closed for renovation — never disclosed beforehand. Hotel offered a small $220 “casino credit,” which doesn’t make up for the misleading booking. On top of that, the rooms and property were in poor condition: broken bathroom door, non-working lamp, lobby leaks with buckets, and an unkempt pool area (found a condom wrapper on a lounge chair). Requested adjoining rooms couldn’t be accommodated, even though the hotel was nearly empty. Extremely disappointing experience. Photos documented all issues. Expedia should disclose major amenity closures before booking.

On the first day I requested to change room that’s. Long story On Saturday there was a private party so the guess were not aloud. I was look forward to sit there and listen to live music. Very unhappy. Also two out of three lamps in the room were not working. Out of 5 days I onlyI wanted the room clean 1 day we left at 10 am returned at 4pm the room was not cleaned so we only had clean sheets 2 day.

What I didn’t like is I booked for a king size room for me and my wife for our anniversary when I get there to check in, they said all the rooms are booked except the only room that was available was a double queen size room. Super inconvenient, I asked for a partial refund or some sort of room change. They offered $300 I ended up getting only $186…I don’t think I’ll be staying here when I come back to PR. What a shame.

Check-in took forever due to limited staff, though Ricardo and Ruth were friendly. Unfortunately, both rooms we were given initially had strong odors and visible mold. After hours of waiting in the lobby, we finally got a room that was just okay. We were offered a $200 credit, which doesn’t go far at a resort like this. Things were fine until final checkout—despite being granted late check-out, we returned to find our room locked, belongings taken, and were told the message was “automated.” Turns out the lock battery was dead, and we waited 30 minutes for maintenance. Communication was poor, and the hotel added a surprise $100 credit just before check-out—different from what we were originally told. For a “5-star” resort, it lacked cleanliness, proper maintenance, and staff coordination. Would not recommend El San Juan Fairmont.
