Great staff, clean well kept property. Book the balcony room , comes with drying rack for bathing suits. Three good specialty restaurants. Daily yoga with Armando @ 9:30, loves it. They don't supply body lotion or hair conditioner. There's a store in hotel with most things you need. Shade is limited on the beach area, no palappas, there are palm trees. Beach is clean and you can walk forever. Safe and good beds and towels

Beautiful grounds. Good location. Food was good. Room was however weathered looking and felt small especially since there was no balcony to sit on which I did not expect. Though the room was cleaned every day, you never knew when it would happen and when you would get fresh towels. Toilet did not work properly and even though a plumber came twice, it still was not fixed. Staff, however, were very courteous.

Very nice resort. A little small but was perfect for us. Hotel and rooms were clean and staff and entertainment group were awesome. Restaurants were ok. Buffet was a little small and needed more options. But the soft serve ice cream was perfect. Would definitely come back again

If you're looking for mediocre and like sleeping through a rock concert, this is the place for you. The buffett is okay, restaurants - well, we ate in each one at least two times. Will not miss the food. Most disappointing was the lack of employee cross training which meant a lack of service. Several employees did not speak English - which is not the problem. The problem was when you needed help, if they didn't speak English, they'd shrug and walk away. If they did speak English, you were often passed on to someone else. For instance, I was trying to find some chair clips that were taken from our chairs. No less than four people shrugged and pointed for me to ask someone else. No help, no service because it wasn't their area, so they wouldn't help you. Then, get this - If you're looking for a quiet evening it won't happen. At 9:00 PM, their live show starts. They appeared to be good shows, but they were outside by the pool and exceedingly loud. If you tried to go to sleep, it was impossible. Like I said, trying to sleep in a rock concert. Because of the noise, four other guests told us that they had to move their rooms, and it was still unbearable. The show is not optional. Everynight, everybody in the resort hears blasting, unrelenting music from 9:00-10:15 PM, then the karaoke starts in the open air lounge with loud singing filtering up into your room for over an hour. Don't expect to sleep or have any quiet in your room until well after 11:00 PM. And here is the kicker. We

Love the casual vibe at the Occidental. Not too big, lovely walkable/swimmable beach, very clean, pleasant staff. One complaint - if the rule is towels on unoccupied chairs to be removed after one hour, why is this not enforced? It’s a big problem at the pool, not so much on the beach.
