Poggio Pigio - Four Bedroom Villa, Sleeps 8
Seclusion, style, privacy and peace at this hill-top hideaway with enchanting vistas.
Arriving at Poggio Pigio is a breathtaking experience. From the cobalt blue of the coast one ascends to a privileged position on the crest of a hill from where 360-degree views pan out, taking in the Madonie Mountains to the south and the Tyrrhenian Sea to the north. Beautifully crafted interiors blend harmoniously with an abundance of outside areas, including a panoramic pool.
“It was wonderful to have a full size swimming pool at a villa for two people. This was very much appreciated for the ability to exercise without leaving beautiful Poggio Pigio.” KD, UK, September 2018
Inside: accommodation at Poggio Pigio is spread over two levels and has recently been refurbished and expanded. Lofty white-washed beamed ceilings and pristine white walls ensure a light and airy feel, polished ivory concrete floors provide seamless transition between the various spaces, and an eclectic mix of contemporary furniture, antique pieces and contemporary art blends together harmoniously. Carefully selected quality fittings allow for an effortless guest experience, and the atmosphere serene, welcoming and relaxing.
From the parking area, a geometric open-topped corridor draws guests into the inner sanctum of the property. This blurring of lines between indoor and outdoor living is a key motif of the house's design and one that allows for an organic flow between the various areas.
To the left, near the end of the corridor is the first of the four bedrooms, a fabulously panoramic double, whose picture window looking out to sea takes the breath away. Its en-suite bathroom features a walk-in shower with a glass wall between it and the bedroom, thus allowing those who are showering to share in the sea views.
Opposite this bedroom, a door takes one into the house proper, which is divided into four main sections: first, is the well-equipped kitchen, with mountain and sea views; then comes the super-comfy living area, with a commodious L-shaped sofa and a large TV; third, accessed from the living room, is the main bedroom, a light, bright double with en-suite shower room and access via French windows to a shady section of the sea-view terraces; last, but definitely not least is a voluminous sea-facing space accessed from the kitchen and the living room. Furnished with a dining table and a sitting area, this room is another example of the blurring of indoor and outdoor space, thanks to the floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall sliding glass doors that communicate with the main sea-view terrace. Open the doors, and you're practically al fresco, close them and you're inside but with the same view.
Steps lead down from near the kitchen and from the pool area to another long sea-view terrace, from which the remaining two bedrooms, both double-twins, are accessed: the first has an en-suite bathroom featuring a sunken tub and a rainfall shower; the second has an en-suite shower room. This lower floor is also home to a gym.
Outside: Poggio Pigio's gardens and grounds are extensive and blend with the surrounding countryside. Along the front of the house are a pair of long terraces - one above (the main terrace), accessed from the dining and sitting area, and one below, accessed from the two bedrooms on the lower floor. Furnished with stylish loungers and over-sized bean bags, the terraces offer breathtaking views over the sparkling Tyrrhenian Sea and the coastline below. The main terrace, which is also furnished with a table and four chairs, is the perfect spot for breakfasts and mid-morning coffees
The main terrace flows round the house, via a shaded area accessed from the main bedroom, to a second convivial al fresco space, where there is a pergola-covered dining area served by a large barbecue. Then, flanked by olive trees and low-lying shrubbery, is the lovely pool, with its 180-degree sea and mountain vistas.
Parts of the route to this property include some quite steep twists and turns and/or narrow stretches of road. We recommend guests rent smaller car models rather than large people carriers or mini vans.
Some electricity lines (see photos) run about 60m in front of the property on the sea-facing side of the house.
You may also wish to know that the pool has a single depth of 1.6m.
Due to the nature of the property including terraces low walls and several drops around the grounds, children must be supervised at all times.
Please note that there is no real shallow end in the pool, whose minimum depth is over 1.3m.
This property is surrounded by countryside, some of which is unfenced and may include drops or steep slopes. We therefore recommend that younger children are supervised by an adult when exploring the ground.
The north flank of the Madonie mountains, just east of Cefalu', is one of the most beautiful areas in Sicily. The sea views are stunning, the flora and fauna uncontaminated, and the towns and villages unspoiled. Pollina and Castelbuono, the two nearest towns, are good examples of this. Castelbuono is just now starting to find its place on the tourist map and features a fascinating castle and some good restaurants. Hill-top Pollina is a typical Sicilian village.
The beach at Pollina, which is just 15 minutes drive from Poggio Pigio, is well equipped in summer for the benefit of the clients of an adjacent Italian holiday resort. Out of the peak season, however, it is relatively deserted.
Arrival details will be confirmed by The Thinking Traveller after your villa is confirmed.
The Thinking Traveller can organise transfers and car hire and an agent will be in touch with you once your villa is confirmed.
