The internal decor was very much in keeping with a mid-Victorian period hotel. But it did show wear in some of the public spaces. The soundproofing between rooms was excellent, we heard nothing at all from our neighbours. A much different situation from most modern hotels. The bathroom was small but it was the fact that the light over the sink, one of the 2 lights over the bath and the extractor fan did not work. It was reported to the receptionist, but not fixed in the 34 before we left. Breakfast was a disappointing warming tray buffet with anemic bacon and industrial sausages.
However, the staff were, without exception, cheerful, helpful and welcoming. The hotel also has a proactive approach to sustainability and recycling. Could do with secondary glazing, condensation was very heavy after a chilly night.
