Wonderful property. Restaurant excellent! Nice lobby area to work. Room decor is amazing! Truly loved the body wash and lotion. Need wash cloths. Don’t like using hand towels in the shower because they are too big. Need a ramp so that you don’t have to drag luggage up the steps to enter the property. Didn’t fully understand parking hours. Checkout time needs to be extended to 11:00am instead of 10:30am.

I loved my spacious room with its large windows and unique furnishings. It had everything I needed, and was very self-contained. Although I did not eat at the restaurant inside, it was a vibrant space. The surrounding area is somewhat compromised in the facility itself is old. It still has wonderful charm. I highly recommend to younger travelers interested in a non-corporate setting.

Enjoyed our stay

We stayed at The Maverick by Kasa 2 nights while visiting Pittsburgh. All the information we needed to enter the building, get our room number, and park our car was readily available in my e-mail. The room itself was spacious, clean, and very quiet. We found street parking but a parking lot was nearby. While walking in the neighborhood to find dinner, someone tried to steal my phone. We were extra careful after that incident and stayed indoors at night. The hotel is a short drive to a lot of restaurants, The Phipps Conservatory, and the Carnegie Art Museum.

No staff on site. Water temperature was too hot and hard to regulate. Nearly got scalded. Parking was inconvenient.

Our stay was fantastic - the view of the church right outside our window was spectacular! I really enjoyed how they made use of the elongated space, one of the most unique hotel rooms I've stayed in by far!

Surprisingly upscale

It's an old YMCA but it's probably the coolest hotel I've ever stayed in. On arrival you find it's directly across from a gorgeous old church and the neighborhood has a number of historic buildings. We found on street parking at the church but that may not be so easy during daytime. It took a minute to find the check-in kiosk. The lobby bar had a ton of staff and the food and drinks are fantastic if a bit pricey. The room was small but very modern, clean, and smartly arranged. My girlfriend found the mattress to be too stiff but that's a personal preference. The whole place has a strangely empty, almost haunted feel and it was fun to explore.

Looks like a Hotel, Feels like a Hassle

If Kava wants to operate as an overnight hostel, they should advertise it honestly instead of masquerading as part of the hospitality industry. There is no hospitality here. The online check-in app is unusable. While some people might be fine with virtual check-in and check-out, I am not. This system was both unusable and inconvenient. It should not take two thirty-year-olds and a YouTube tutorial just to check out of a hotel. Add to that the fact that there is no elevator or handicap accessibility and the parking situation is practically impossible, and you’ve got a recipe for frustration. These aren’t minor inconveniences they’re deal breakers! Inside, the experience is just as disappointing. Guests are instructed to strip their own beds and haul linens to a basket at hotel prices, that’s insulting. The beds are uncomfortably low to the ground, the pillows collapse into nothing, and the only redeeming quality is that the soap smells decent. Congratulations, Kava you’ve managed to reinvent the world’s most expensive dorm room, just without any of the fun or community. For the rates charged, this is unacceptable. Save yourself the frustration Pittsburgh has plenty of options that actually understand what hospitality means.

We had toilet flash issue however since there is no stuff there, it’s very difficult to solve the problem fast. We needed to go to basement to use the toilets from 5 th floor because they didn’t tell us any updates…. And changing the room also they said they assist us but nothing until I asked them many times. If I was just that day, I cannot keep text them that often so I don’t recommend this place for business or tight schedule people

Parking was a little challenging in this downtown location, but once done it was easy to walk to parks and restaurants. Or eat in the lovely and popular hotel cafe. A cool retro vibe throughout.

2nd time at kasa. 1st time was amazing, just the opposite this visit.... Elevator broken so had to lug our luggage to the 4th floor after a 7 hour drive, no one on staff and customer service (California number) very sub par!! Unit was smaller than reserved and when we left we forgot some items in fridge. Called and they said they had our stuff so we drove back too only getting half of what was in fridge! Young lady at the desk which I had to wait 10 minutes for her return said sorry but supposedly already had people in room so I wasn't aloud up too the room..... Unfortunately we won't be back. Don't care how quaint the place is, if you can't provide good customer service, close your doors!
