An excellent atmospheric and comfortable hotel with a very young front of house staff who really knew what they were doing, a credit to the hotel.

Stunning views, location and garden.
Room was clean, food was good except my intolerance was not considered in all my food despite informing them in advance.
Unfortunately let down by poor service of staff throughout the stay - front desk, waiting staff and duty manager. Especially the duty manager who asked for extra tips and charged us £8 for a pint of Diet Coke…

Very authentic but needs a refresh without losing its historic authenticity. Needs elevator and trailheads are too far (1 1/2 miles to Old Corpse Road trailhead) - needs trailhead right behind hotel.
Dinner menu not good — very fancy, very narrow, might be popular in Knightsbridge or Kensington but not in mountains where people out and about and craving hearty meal at end of day- the “bread” was ridiculous.

Bathroom was filthy and covered in white powder (possibly plaster dust). Reported it but staff took no action which was very disappointing, especially considering the high cost of the room. Very understaffed and overall poor value for money. Which if booked somewhere else in hindsight as I've stayed in far better lake district hotels for less money.
The location is spectacular as was the weather. Kate the manager is exceptional, she had agency staff who were a credit to her but new one had been there 2 hours, a chef walked out and she was cooking as well as running and managing everything including a power cut. The hotel is tired we had a suite and the plugs didn’t work in the bath and shower, the bath was also chipped. If they spent the money and invested in the proper and staff it would be awesome, the garden needed mowing and was generally untidy. The food was ok but expensive for what it was. Overall Kate and the team made the weekend.
