Have The Okra Inn all to yourselves! Housed in a historic Mid-City building, The Okra Inn was recently renovated by us into a colorful, beautifully designed guest house, full of New Orleans character. With six guest rooms, 4.5 baths, large inviting living, dining, and kitchen spaces, a huge backyard, and parking for 4 cars, it's a one-of-a-kind home base for gatherings and getaways with friends and family. Pretty much everyone who stays with us says they think the space is amazing; come see why!
THE SPACE
The Inn is a large, historic camel back that was renovated and expanded into a licensed bed & breakfast. During the renovation, we took great care to preserve the home's distinctively New Orleanian character rather than create another bland, forgettable rental. The house features 12-foot ceilings, original hardwood floors, beautiful molding, and a jazzy blend of colors.
Upstairs are six bedrooms and four full bathrooms, including two en-suite bathrooms in the master bedrooms and two off the hallway. Downstairs is a spacious living room, dining room, and fully stocked kitchen, plus another half bathroom. There's plenty of room for groups of up to 12 guests.
On the property, you'll find off-street parking for up to four vehicles and a breezy back porch overlooking our huge backyard, complete with play equipment.
Note about the space: We live in a separate owner's unit within the building, behind locked doors with our own separate entrances. The entire interior guest space is exclusively yours during your stay. We do share the backyard and parking areas with guests, and you may occasionally see us around the property—but your guest rooms and all indoor common areas are completely private to your group.
THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Mid-City is one of New Orleans' most lively and eclectic neighborhoods, and a great home base for exploring the city. We're just a short walk from the streetcar, which makes getting to the French Quarter and Central Business District easy. Uptown, Tremé, the Lakefront, and other neighborhoods are also within easy reach.
And there's plenty to explore right here. Within about 1.5 miles you'll find dozens of locally owned restaurants and bars, including Parkway Bakery & Tavern, multiple music venues and coffee shops, City Park, the New Orleans Museum of Art and Besthoff Sculpture Garden, Bayou St. John, Café du Monde, Angelo Brocato's, grocery stores and specialty markets, kayak and paddle boat rentals, swimming pools, and some of New Orleans' famous above-ground cemeteries.
Come hungry, curious, and ready to explore. Y'all are going to love Mid-City!
GETTING AROUND
Off street parking is available. We are located four blocks from a major streetcar stop, which is then a 15 minute ride to The French Quarter and Central Business District. We are a 5 minute ride to City Park (or 20 minute walk), and a 5 minute ride to New Orleans' famous above ground cemeteries. Blue Bikes offers bicycle-sharing that allows for pickup and drop-off throughout the city. Uber and Lyft operate in New Orleans as well as traditional taxis. And if you really want the fun way to get around, you can always hire a party bus...
