Welcome to By The Moon, a year-round Moon River retreat in Bala. Enjoy crystal-clear water, a sandy shoreline and a private dock perfect for swimming, kayaking and canoeing. This cozy year-round cottage comfortably sleeps up to 8 guests, making it ideal for two families or a small group getaway.

The main floor features an open-concept living space that flows seamlessly from the kitchen through the dining area into the living room. At the center of the dining area is a large harvest table that seats 8, perfect for shared meals, board games, and gathering together after a day on the water.

Three comfortable bedrooms and a 4-piece bathroom are located on the main level.

The lower level offers additional sleeping spaces, another 4-piece bathroom, a spacious laundry room, and a cozy “Muskoka Room” designed for games, relaxation and family time.

Waterfront Living

The real highlight of the property is its private Moon River waterfront.
A path from the cottage leads to the waterfront where you can enjoy swimming, paddling, and relaxing by the clear waters of Moon River.

For guests who love being on the water, the cottage provides:

• 4 kayaks (2 adult and 2 child)
• 1 canoe

The floating dock furnished with classic Muskoka chairs is the perfect place to enjoy morning coffee, afternoon sun, or evening drinks while taking in the peaceful Moon River views.

Guests agree to hold the property management company, co-hosts, and owners harmless from any liability or injury before, during, or after their stay.

Participation in activities such as canoeing, kayaking, biking, swimming, and lawn games is voluntary and at your own risk.

Guest health, safety, and well-being are extremely important to us. We follow a thorough professional cleaning and sanitization process after every checkout.

Important Notes for Stays of 1 Week or Longer

Starter supplies of toilet paper, garbage bags, and basic toiletries are provided. Guests are responsible for replenishing supplies beyond the initial set.

Winter in Muskoka

Winter in Muskoka is truly magical. The private driveway is professionally plowed, and the main road is maintained by the municipality to ensure access throughout the season.

However, winter conditions can change quickly in cottage country, so guests should be prepared for snow and ice. We recommend winter-ready vehicles and appropriate footwear for a safe and enjoyable stay.

Guest access
Guests will have private access to the entire cottage and property during their stay.

This includes full use of the indoor living spaces, kitchen, bedrooms, and outdoor areas including the deck, private dock, and waterfront. Guests are also welcome to enjoy the kayaks and canoe available at the property.

The home is designed for guests to relax and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of Moon River while having convenient access to nearby Bala and Muskoka attractions.

Other things to note
• Septic System: The cottage operates on a septic system, which is common in Muskoka. Please only flush toilet paper. Do not flush wipes, paper towels, feminine products, or other items as they can damage the system.

• The waterfront and dock area may be slippery when wet. Children should always be supervised near the water.

• Kayaks and the canoe are available for guest use. Life jackets are provided and strongly recommended.

• Muskoka is a natural environment and guests may encounter wildlife, insects, and uneven terrain around the property.

• Some owner storage areas may remain locked and are not accessible to guests.

• During winter months, the driveway is professionally plowed and the main roads are maintained by the municipality. However, winter conditions can change quickly in cottage country, so winter-ready vehicles and appropriate footwear are recommended.
