WORST HOTEL MANAGEMENT! Do not stay here. This is not a 5* hotel. Sketchy area with loud creeps outside. Unable to sleep. We had an issue with our room, and despite another room being available, we were told to wait until 11:30 pm and call reception back because they didn’t want to escalate the issue to a manager and resolve the problem. In the morning, called down to have 2 towels brought to our room. 45 mins later they arrived. After we showered. Ridiculous. 45 min wait as well to get wine delivered the night before. Once we checked out, I called the manager to speak about the issue and was promised a call back 2 days ago, and it’s been radio silence. Anytime I call I get the run around or rudely disregarded. They do not fix issues or respect people’s time or money. $800 wasted on a perpetual headache caused by the bad service at this place. Stay at four seasons or Ritz.
Our overall experience was fantastic, with just one aspect that caused some frustration. We ordered room service and requested delivery at 8:30 AM, but it didn’t arrive until 9:00 AM. While the timing wasn’t the main issue, the food and coffee were cold upon arrival. At a five-star hotel, especially for a nearly $100 breakfast, we expected our order to be handled with promptness and served at the proper temperature.
Amazing location. Walking distance to anything you need. The staff were all so nice and accommodating. The bar is the best and cocktails were made so well!

The listing stated king size bed and a queen pull out sofa bed. It was indicated that the second room was for our 4 adult children. What we got was a queen bed with a full size pull out. It did not accommodate four people. When we asked about it they were dismissive “that’s what you got” no we have a queen and a full. “That’s all we have”. Our second room was also supposed to have a king and it was a queen. Not a big deal but not what we paid for.
The check in process was also awful. We arrived early. I was told our rooms were in the process of being cleaned and would be ready in an hour. We went to get a bite to eat, came back in 2 hours. We were told by the same gentleman that the rooms were not ready and were met with an attitude that they don’t accommodate early check ins. We completely understand that policy and were prepared to not check in until 4 except we were told our rooms would be ready 2:00.
Our luggage was left in the lobby unattended and not secured.
No robe, slippers, very poor amenities and service.
If you are used to 5 star hotels this is not the one for you.
Calling this hotel 5 stars is a far stretch.
Beautiful property with lots of history in a vibrant part of the downtown. An easy walk to Place des Arts, the train station and old Montreal along with easy subway access. Room was gorgeous and had the most wonderful towels.

Not recommended
The hotel is adequate. Not comparable to other 5-star hotels such as Four Seasons or the Ritz. The location, although central, is located in a heavily populated area of homeless individuals - which can be somewhat distressing. The individual at reception was difficult, and with the exception of one bell-hop who was absolutely lovely, the rest were more concerned with talking amongst themselves than assisting guests. I was reluctant to book this hotel based on the poor reviews, to which I can now confirm are indeed true. Not recommended. The hotel should undertake training their staff with customer service skills.

service was amazing and the rooms and everything was great
Great stay at the Hotel Birks this weekend! The rooms were spacious, clean, and the view of the Phillips Square was nice! On Friday nights in the summer there is dancing in the square which lasts until about 11pm and the music is quite loud, so something to note if you need an early bed time have a city view room, you will hear it until it stops but we were just going to sleep when it stopped.
The staff was very helpful with restaurant recommendations in the area and any questions or requests we had.
It was a bit further away from the "Old Montreal" downtown area than I had expected, but if you are capable of doing a 20-ish minute walk and using that time to explore the city, then the area is perfect!
We would definitely stay here again.
