Some houses ask you to do things. Baja asks you to slow down. This four-bedroom, single-level, pet-friendly holiday house in Blairgowrie on the Mornington Peninsula has a solar-heated pool, a sunny deck, a fenced garden and a wood fire for cooler nights, a 16-minute walk from Dimmicks Beach.
THE HOUSE
4 bedrooms | 2 bathrooms | Sleeps 8 | Dogs welcome inside
Baja is light and airy, with a Palm Springs feel. Beds are a king, a king that splits into two singles, and two queens, with two bathrooms, all on one level.
INSIDE
The living space opens onto the deck. The kitchen is well stocked, with a dishwasher, a generous fridge and freezer, and a Lavazza coffee machine. There's a smart TV, Wi-Fi and a bath, and linen and laundry facilities are included. A wood log fire and reverse-cycle air conditioning keep the house comfortable all year.
OUTSIDE
A solar-heated pool beside a sunny deck, a BBQ, and a garden with 6-foot fencing. There's a carport plus driveway parking for two or three cars.
THE NEIGHBOURHOOD
Dimmicks Beach is a 16-minute walk, with Sixteenth Beach and the coastal walking track a little further on. These are wild ocean beaches within Mornington Peninsula National Park: beautiful for walks and rock pools, but not for casual swimming, and dogs aren't permitted. Blairgowrie's calm bay beaches are a short drive, the village shops are 4 minutes by car, and Sorrento and Rye are close.
LOCAL FAVOURITES
Sixteenth Beach General Store: right across the road from the ocean beach, with fresh local produce and some of the best coffee around.
Meat Heath, Blairgowrie: the long-standing village butcher, with ethically farmed meats and gourmet sausages made fresh on site.
Loquat x Voodoo Lounge, Sorrento: modern Australian food built around local produce, with a Rolling Stones-themed bar inside. Book ahead.
FOR THE DOG
Dogs are welcome inside, and at the owners' request, Baja is suited to smaller dogs. The garden has 6-foot fencing and is fully enclosed once the front gate is closed, though there's no grass inside the fence. The leash-free dog beach at Camerons Bight is a short drive away (seasonal time restrictions can apply), and a treat basket is waiting when you arrive.
SUMMER HERE, WINTER HERE
In summer, it's pool, deck and beach, with the BBQ going as the light fades. In winter, walk the coastal track in a coat, come home to the wood fire, and spend an afternoon at the Peninsula Hot Springs or Alba Hot Springs, both a short drive away.
GOOD TO KNOW
Baja is not available for parties or events. Short Stay Certificate No. STRA0356/23.
