Bear beware. The main issue we had with this property was the lack of consideration of guest safety with wildlife. In a well-known area with bears, this property has multiple open trash cans surrounding guest rooms. This led myself and other guests (including young children) to come within feet of a 8+ foot brown bear rummaging through the open trash cans after coming down the stairs from our room. Of course, you can’t blame a property for wildlife, but this is pure negligence and placing guests in danger. Otherwise, the property is in a great location and the amenities are a nice touch with smores, bikes, etc. Would not recommend staying here until the necessary safety changes have been made.

This room/experience left a lot to be desired, but I’ll start with the good: great location-easy walking distance to Heavenly shops and restaurants, clean rooms and some nice on site amenities like fire pits, pool and hot tub. That said, the rate was high for what the room offered and for the very communal experience that the footprint forced. The room, while clean, was bare and lacked any sort of warmth or coziness at all. It felt more like staying in a basement with only the necessities than a king-size hotel room. I was also lucky enough to stay during a hockey tournament where tons of families and young boys were lodging at the same time. That wouldn’t be a big deal if it weren’t for the open, communal space that so many of the rooms open up to. So we constantly endured other guests being loud and inconsiderate which may not seem like the hotel’s fault, but they made no effort to ask the group to lower their volume given not all guests were in their party. If the hotel is going to be set up more like a motel with guest doors opening directly to the outside and to the reception spaces, then I would expect them to intervene more when 11-year old boys (and their absentee parents) are screaming for three hours straight. Bottom line, I felt the rate was too high for the experience. This place looks like a curated boutique hotel from the pictures but lives more like a motel.

My favorite place we’ve stayed so far! We will definitely be back! When you check in they offer you beer/mimosas and they offer amazing recommendations for things to do and places to eat. They genuinely care that you have the best trip possible. It’s very clean and cute. They offer food as well and there are complementary s’mores at night by the fire pit! There is so much in walking distance. 10/10 Cannot recommend enough!

Stayed here with a friend for a girls trip. Really enjoyed the complimentary s’mores and the overall vibe. Great location within walking distance to Heavenly shops. Room was clean and comfortable. Will definitely stay here again in the future.

In a few words, they treated me like royalty. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I had a small problem with my room, which they solved by upgrading me to a suite. It was simply amazing. The bar is very nice, and they make a great espresso. This trip was a solo vacation focused on photography. Next time I come to South Lake Tahoe with my family we will stay here again. I highly recommend the Coachman.

The property grounds and rooms are a lot nicer in the pictures. The buildings are really run down and supposedly the rooms were remodeled. Staff was really nice, but don’t expect them to fix anything right. The best things about this place were the heated toilet seats and the humongous bear that walks through the parking lot.
