Loved the modified ryokan experience. The staff is very welcoming. The onsen was excellent - so many different looks to choose from. The food is the best - excellent breakfast with so many choices including fresh seafood, availability of noodle and ice cream after onsen at night. The only downside is its popularity meant many many guests ( and long breakfast line). My kids really enjoyed the stay.

One of the most unique and memorable hotels we’ve ever stayed at. You walk around without shoes, which immediately sets a calming, authentic Japanese atmosphere. The onsen was wonderful, and the breakfast was hands down the best we’ve ever had—an incredible variety and beautifully prepared. Excellent facilities—spotlessly clean and deeply rooted in the traditions of Japanese hospitality. The staff is extremely helpful, attentive, and always willing to assist with a genuine smile. My friend and I stayed at this hotel because it’s viral on TikTok. I’m happy to report it is absolutely worth the hype! The staff are very friendly and helpful. The hotel works with a luggage transfer company (not Yamato). The breakfast buffet is fresh and delicious, kinda crowded at all times, but moves fast and very worth it. We didn’t use the onsen as we have tattoos but we did get ourselves a little ice cream - it was fine, you can get something better from the konbini across the street. It’s like a 5 minute walk from Kyoto station which was incredible. The rooms are fair size and clean. The night time ramen is also great! I also really enjoyed walking around in socks, I think it added something a little different and their shoe horns were very nice (I know an odd thing to note but they stuck with me, I wish I could have found some to buy). We were worried this hotel was going to be overhyped, but I will stay here again if I return to Kyoto.

The room was really small with very narrow beds for a family of 4 even though we were quite slim and my children were 8 and 11. The breakfast was amazing but the line was long. My kids really enjoyed the complimentary Matcha, ice lollies etc. The female public onsen experiences were great. However, my husband and son told me the male public onsen could have been cleaner, as there were many 'hairs' floating around which was not pleasant. The location and parking were great.
