Unexpected for a Best Western

Overall lighting was dim, perhaps to hide the dingy conditions of the facility. The fitness room was ill equipped, several machines did not work. Bathroom was dirty, mold on the shower grout.

This was a dark, sub-optimal property with thin walls allowing unwanted sounds to intrude, and the price $550/night when I stayed--even at the height of tourist season--was outrageous.

Check in time on our reservation was 3 pm check. We arrived around 4 pm and were told that Housekeeping was running behind and no room was available for us. When we cinally checked in at 5:28, there was no manager present and we were offered no compensation was offered for out inconvenience. We were told at check in that breakfast was no longer free, but $17.98 per person When I showed them our Expedia reservation showing full breakfast, they gave us tickets for free breakfast. The breakfast was a buffet and was fair, but no better than the free breakfast at other motel chains. I would never pay $17.98 for that breakfast. The ice machine in our part of the building wasn't working, so we had to go to the bar which was staffed only for breakfast and after 5 pm. As to the room, there was peeling wallpaper in the bathroom and stained grout beneath it. The TVchanger was like nothing I've ever seen before and there were no instructions. It took us hours to figure out how to use it. We asked to speak to a manager about the problems that we had, but were told that he was on break off the premises. We paid almost $400 per night and were not offered any compensation for the inconvenience of having to sit in the lobby from 4 to 5:28 pm when our room was finally available. I have contacted Best Western customere service and told them basically the same. I really feel that Best Western should compensate us for the unavailable room. We will not use that Best Western again.

A fight almost broke out in the lobby. There was no security or anyone trying to deescalate the situation. The staff did nothing. The pool had a wire/light that was loose.

The property needs a paint re-fresher. Tired brown colors. The landscape around the hotel needs an upgrade and the gym is spartan at best. Equipment is missing. The gym needs towels and staffing. The staff personnel we encountered were pleasant and helpful.

The room itself was nice and clean, but ...check in was slow ( the family in front of me was given a room already occupied by other guests), the rug in the hallway smells like smoke, and just finding the road to the hotel is poorly lit so I turned around 3 times to find the road. Its a large hotel and the signage to the lobby is poor. It needs an update.

The first night we had a mouse get into our things and made a mess. I told front desk, they said "Sorry" I showed them pictures of the mess. Housekeeping emptied our garbage during the day, but NEVER VACCUMED THE MESS! The next morning I told front desk again what happened, same guy, and he said there was nothing he could do since I booked through Hotels.com
