It’s always been a favorite of ours. We live in Florida but visit Maine and New Hampshire often. We stay at Eagle Mountain house every time. We have told several people about it and they have stayed there too and felt the same way

Interesting very old creaky property, uneven floors (due to age) and an original early 19th century lift! Room was comfortable, although lacking in quality - sofa bed was very uncomfortable to sit on. I think the hotel is undergoing some refurbishment, although our room was old and tired - a large TV in both bedroom and lounge area, although lacking in electrical outlets, hence the multiple adaptors! Bathroom was very small and cramped, and the WC was almost underneath the sink! Despite being advertised as daily housekeeping service, this was not the case; it did happen after we requested it - although a sweet wrapper (nor ours) was behind a table lamp for the whole of our stay. The buffet breakfast on our first morning was very poor, so much so that we subsequently had breakfast out each day. We ate in the hotel on 3 evenings, but on the last occasion my wife was unwell. The menu was also quite limited. The bar was good, with an excellent server. During our stay the hotel obviously had a sewerage problem, which permeated the main corridors for nearly the entire stay - fortunately, it did not penetrate our room. Front desk staff were not always friendly or helpful, and checkout was very slow as even the manager seemed unable to operate the computer system.

Beautiful historic hotel in a beautiful setting. Restaurant was good with excellent choices and service.the room was spacious and clean, and the charm of the hotel will stay with me long after I travel back home. We were even greeted with cookies at check-in. Destination charger for EV was an unexpected bonus for an off the beaten path stay.

As in other reviews the rooms are starting to look a little tired. The fridge was freezing anything in it which was annoying but likely an anomaly. The downstairs has been recently refurbished which is good. The barman was excellent and couldn’t be more helpful. The tavern was great and had a nice atmosphere. We did feel the additional $25 a night resort fee was a bit of a con, apart from a cookie it seemed to account for all things that are usually included in your average hotel stay eg WiFi, tea and coffee facilities (in your room usually) and gym. Additionally there is no housekeeping once you’ve arrived - 3 nights in and it would have been great for the bin to have been emptied etc. It’s a nice hotel not a motel so housekeeping would have been something we expected for the price. Location is beautiful and staff were helpful, on arrival the room was clean. The elevator was clearly historic and part of the charm. We enjoyed being able to sit out on the veranda in the rocking chairs.
