We had booked a room down the street at Reed’s Hotel, and it was so gross we left. My friend told us about the SCP and it was such a breath of fresh air! It was clean, everyone was super nice and they had great extras! We got up early and took the paddle boards out on the bay, came back and used the beach cruiser to go downtown for breakfast. The pool was pleasant, and the koi pond was lovely. I would definitely stay here again!

The front desk area/room looks great, the hotel has Koi pond in the front so all this makes it feel impressive/nice. But the actual rooms feel like a motel/basic needs. In addition, the bed/mattress was so soft that we couldn't change positions, sleep quality was bad. Overall, unsatisfactory quality.

Odd thing, but they charge an extra fee for amenities. Pool, coffee and such. Although, they asked what they could do better while we were on our way out, when we voiced our displeasure about the separate amenities charge they waived it. That was pretty awesome

The staff on check in and check out are very friendly and made it a breeze. The lobby area is very nice and several guests and families chose of it to be their nightly hangout area playing cards and board games. The rooms are quiet with comfortable beds. There is on site free parking behind the hotel that makes if convenient and easy to get to your vehicle. They have free rentals on bikes and paddle boards for easy access to the bay and surrounding areas. This was a nice remodeled motel that adds modern touches to an old school charm.

SCP is a renovated older property. They did a great job with the lobby. Rooms were clean, A/C was nosy and you could hear the other guest walking by through the bathroom windiw. Staff was the best part of your property. They were full of Aloha. Sorry to say I probably wouldn’t stay there again.

On our second evening there was a tsunami evacuation. The staff and manager waited until we were safely on a bus to the evacuation centre. This took some time and they gave us regular updates. When we were allowed to return they offered to collect us or send an uber. Thanks so much. The hotel is quite good. Aircon is a bit noisy but works. Probably the best option in Hilo.

The property was beautiful, but we paid for a balcony room and they put us in the back of the building in a room with no view.
