The Cruck Barn, a stunning 500-year-old Grade II listed conversion in a quaint village near Berkhamsted, blends historic charm with modern style. Featuring a 24ft vaulted ceiling, mezzanine (office/4th bedroom), 2 double bedrooms and one twin bedroom incl. master suite with dressing room & en-suite, it sleeps7-10. Enjoy grand piano, pool & table tennis, bar, private manicured garden & BBQ. Award-winning pubs are a short walk, offering the perfect mix of elegance, comfort & countryside living.
Step into History, Stay in Comfort
Welcome to Cruck Barn – a magnificent 15th-century, Grade II listed medieval cruck barn that has been lovingly transformed into a truly unforgettable retreat. Tucked away in a peaceful Hertfordshire village, right on the edge of the Ashridge Estate, this unique home is surrounded by rolling countryside yet only a short drive from Berkhamsted and its charming market town.
From the moment you enter, the barn’s history and character shine through. Think soaring vaulted ceilings, ancient timber beams, and solid oak floors, all beautifully paired with modern design and luxurious touches.
At the heart of the home is a dramatic dining hall with a feature spiral staircase leading to a mezzanine gallery – perfect as a quiet office, reading nook, or it can be an additional bedroom using the double sofa-bed.
(Note, this room is not a typical bedroom as it is on a open mezzanine floor.)
The open-plan kitchen is fully equipped with high-end Neff appliances and quartz worktops, flowing seamlessly into the light-filled lounge. Here, huge windows flood the space with sunshine, while a log-burning stove makes it wonderfully cosy on winter nights.
The master suite is a true delight: French doors open straight onto the private garden, and you’ll enjoy your own dressing room plus a luxury en-suite with both bath and shower. Upstairs, reached by two separate staircases, are two further bedrooms – each with their own en-suite and beautiful countryside views.
The twin bedroom upstairs (with ensuite shower) has two additional trundle beds that can be pulled from underneath the main beds. We only recommend these beds for children or young adults.
Outside, the private garden offers space to relax with a mix of patio, decking, and a low-maintenance lawn – the perfect spot for morning coffee or an evening glass of wine. With parking for up to eight cars, this remarkable home is ideal for gatherings with family and friends.
