We arrive on a Friday evening wet and sandy from an afternoon at the beach to find it that the water had been shut off 3 hours prior and no one had contacted us from the property. When we called, the property manager, Kerry, told us that the water was out on the whole island. But when we contacted friend staying on the North Shore and our resort we had stayed up the night before, no one seem to indicate there was an issue with their water. So it was an isolated incident. She told us if we wanted any more information on the water we needed to watch the news, which we did, and nothing was ever mentioned about the water situation on the news. Meanwhile, we could not use the toilet, cook dinner, rinse off, babies, or anything else needing water. I tried to have a discussion about getting a refund for the stay, but the property manager refused and told me that not having a toilet would be like “old Hawaii”. I had to take my kids to the gas station 5 miles away to use the toilet. After getting no help from the property manager about when she thought the water would Be restored, and multiple unanaswered texts from her, we contacted the water district who said it might be 48 hours. We found an opening in a local hotel, but the property manager said we would not be refunded any money. So after waiting for VRBO to get involved (which they wound up taking 4 days to do) I fell asleep - sandy and convered in salt. I awoke at 8 am and needed to pee so badly to the point of crying. But I was not insured to drive the rental car to the gas station. I looked for updates from property manager and water district. Nothing. So I woke my husband to take me to the gas station. On our way out we checked the water. It was working. So I texted the property manager who said “yeah. It went on at 4am”. So she knew we were distressed but didn’t bother to let us know. In addition to the water fiasco, the property had no dishwashing soap for the dishwasher (even though dishes are to be left cleaned and dried and replaced after the stay), 1/3 roll of toilet paper for our 4 day stay, less than half a roll of paper towel and no trash bags (even though all trash must be taken out upon check out). The property was gorgeous- very clean, perfect location and right on the beach. If it had been properly managed, it would have been a magical stay.
