"The lead photo of the dunes looking out to sea gives the impression that's the view from the apartment, but it's not. That's the view from roof terrace. The view from this apartment is a paved area, you can't see the beach/sea. This wouldn't be a problem, but a sea view is one important criteria for me so was disappointed. The roof terrace is quite impressive, though we didn't use it because it was too windy while we were there.
The apartment itself was clean and fresh with plenty of space. The beds were comfortable. Bathrooms are nice (particularly when we figured out there is underfloor heating, which helped a lot with damp towels etc, bearing in mind we were there in April, it was quite cool and raining some of the time). The kitchen is great, has all it needs and is clean, but there were things missing which would have been helpful, like bin bags, and an area for storing foodstuffs like bread and pasta etc. There is a useful utility area (it is accessed via the smaller bedroom so a bit awkward) and the machines work well. I liked the master bedroom, especially as some nights I could hear the sea with the door open. Lots of wardrobe/drawer space, and a nice en suite.
A long mirror somewhere would be good. The sofa is in fact a sofabed. It's okay but the cushions shift, and of course it's only really big enough for two people to sit on, so if there's three or four of you, you won't all have a comfy place to sit! There's enough room for more.
It would be useful to have a welcome folder, to give you details of WiFi (we found it quite awkward getting it from a small cupboard near the floor, pulling out the router) where to take rubbish, local amenities etc.
We found it difficult to get a close parking space.
Beach access is lovely. This building is on the edge of the resort so away from the general noise and with direct access through the dunes to the quieter beach area. It's pretty and safe, and away from the shops and restaurants but close enough to reach by a short walk, along the beach/boardwalks is lovely. La Mata itself is in need of some TLC, it seems neglected in some areas. But it's smaller and less frantic than larger resorts. The plaza area had some rides and climbing frames for kids. When it was busy over the Easter weekend, there was not a table to be had anywhere, so be sure to reserve a table at busy time!
Our key was left in a post box which we couldn't reach into without grazing knuckles, and it had been put in the wrong one!"
