Sandusky River Retreat | Fire Pit & King Bed

Spend your summer on the Sandusky River at this bright, updated upstairs apartment — a peaceful riverfront escape with a shared fire pit, grill, and outdoor seating just steps from the water. Whether you're planning a long weekend getaway, a fishing trip, or a base camp for exploring Lake Erie's best attractions, this comfortable riverside unit has everything you need to settle in and unwind.

The bedroom features a king bed, and the living area includes a queen pullout sofa, sleeping up to 4 guests comfortably. The fully equipped kitchen makes it easy to cook meals and brew morning coffee without leaving home. A washer and dryer are included for longer stays. Two Roku Smart TVs — sign into your own streaming accounts and Roku Guest Mode automatically signs you out at checkout.

Outside, the shared fire pit, grill, and seating area are the heart of the property on summer evenings. There's plenty of room in the shared lot for cars, boats, and trailers — 6 or more vehicles easily.

On summer weekends (Friday through Sunday, Memorial Day through Labor Day), Jimmy Bukkett's is right across the street — a beloved local riverfront bar with live music, great drinks, and a Key West on the Sandusky River atmosphere. A fun bonus if you're looking for it.

Please note:
- Access to the upstairs unit is via exterior stairs that are exposed to the elements — please plan accordingly in wet or cold weather.
- The outdoor fire pit, grill, and seating area are shared with the downstairs unit and campground guests in the area.
- Mayflies and other seasonal insects are common near the river during warmer months — a natural part of riverfront living.
- This property is rural.
- Children are welcome. Please be aware of the shared outdoor space and proximity to the river.

LOCATION:
On the Water

The Sandusky River is your backyard — launch your own boat from the available slip and explore the river all the way out to Sandusky Bay and Lake Erie. Memory Marina is directly across the street for docking and river access. Fishing on the Sandusky River is excellent in season, with walleye, catfish, and bass all common catches. Lake Erie fishing charters depart from Port Clinton, about 40 minutes away, for world-class walleye fishing on the lake.

Cedar Point — 35 Minutes

One of the top amusement parks in the world and the undisputed Roller Coaster Capital of the World. Cedar Point sits on a peninsula jutting into Lake Erie with over 70 rides including some of the tallest and fastest coasters on the planet. Plan a full day.

Lake Erie Islands — 40 Minutes to the Ferry

Take the Miller Ferry from Marblehead to Put-in-Bay on South Bass Island — a lively summer destination with golf carts, historic sites, wineries, and waterfront bars. Middle Bass Island is a quieter alternative on the same ferry line. Kelleys Island is reachable by ferry from Marblehead as well — a peaceful island with glacial grooves, state park beaches, and hiking trails.

Port Clinton & Lake Erie Shore — 40 Minutes

Known as the Walleye Capital of the World, Port Clinton has fishing charters, lakefront restaurants, and a charming small-town waterfront. It's also the jumping-off point for the Lake Erie Islands ferries.

Downtown Fremont — 10 Minutes

Fremont is a classic small Ohio town with local restaurants, shops, Birchard Park, and Spiegel Grove — the estate of President Rutherford B. Hayes, open for tours. The Hayes Presidential Library and Museums is one of the most underrated presidential sites in the Midwest.

Jimmy Bukkett's — Steps Away (Weekends, Memorial Day through Labor Day)

Right across the street, Jimmy Bukkett's is a beloved local institution on the Sandusky River — known for live music, cold drinks, and a laid-back Key West vibe that feels nothing like inland Ohio. Open Friday through Sunday during summer season only. A fun bonus for guests who want it; easy to skip for those who prefer a quiet evening on the patio.

Wineries and Scenic Drives

Lake Erie Wine Country stretches east from Sandusky along the southern Lake Erie shoreline toward the Pennsylvania border, with wineries, tasting rooms, and farm stands dotting the route. Several are within a 30 to 45 minute drive and make for an easy half-day trip.

Day trips from your door:
Cedar Point — 35 minutes (The Roller Coaster Capital of the World)
Miller Ferry to Put-in-Bay and Middle Bass Island — 40 minutes
Port Clinton fishing charters on Lake Erie — 40 minutes
Kelleys Island — approximately 90 minutes by boat up the river
Downtown Fremont shops and dining — 10 minutes

Boat owners: launch from the available slip and explore the Sandusky River or head all the way out to Sandusky Bay and Lake Erie.

This was a great place to stay. Very clean and updated. Has everything you need in the kitchen and bathroom. We did run out of paper towels but we tend to go through those pretty easily. The only complaint that I have would be that the water pressure is pretty low but again, that's no big deal. This place is very clean and bug free. I would highly recommend staying in this place. The host's were very accessible and very nice.
