Step back in time

Loved the Oliver Inn. Felt as though I had stepped back in time but with all of the modern conveniences. Arriving after dark in downtown Duluth by myself was a little intimidating. I was thankful for the secure garage and coded entries.

I loved that the hotel was in the Old City hall. They did a great job of retaining a sense of history with modern amenities. The in room electric fireplace was appreciated even though plugging anything else in on that wall caused the breaker to blow. The secure parking garage across the street was well priced at $12 per 24 hours but you had to walk past multiple homeless persons which felt a little uneasy. Close to a great breakfast place and Duluth Trading Company as well as being very convenient to highway access. I am fine with not having housekeeping to make my bed, but I did not like that we couldn't get fresh towels. The refrigerator, freezer and microwave were appreciated. All in all, a good place to stay although I honestly don't know if I would stay there by myself.

I made the reservation thinking there would be available parking, a window in the room, and a bath. After I made the reservation, I found none of these were available. I called within the allotted time and cancelled with a man named Gary (Eastern accent -- I may have misheard him) who assured me I could cancel. Of course I was billed.

The hotel rooms were great! The two bars on the property were very cool! However, this property is not easily accessible. Parking was hard to find and once you figured it out, it was across the street. Then you had to deal with un-homed lottering by the doors and on the street. No area to load or unload luggage or any help from staff, as there were none on-site. If you needed assistance, you had to text/call the hotel and wait for a response However, during the day it was very convenient and felt safe to be right downtown but after dark the vicinity was highly populated with un-homed individuals and a little scary. It would have been nice if the property had a vending machine for water, snacks and an ice machine, but no luck. We had to go to other businesses close by to buy bottled water and food, which was very expensive. Everything had key codes to be able to enter. The hotel, the room and parking doors. It took several tries to get them to work properly. That might have been our issue as we were not used to working these. Overall, I loved the hotel and the rooms, just not the hassle of all of the door codes or getting our luggage in and out of the hotel and not the discomfort of the un-homed next to the doors and on the street.

Unique old town Duluth. Daytime walking only Casino not a good area. Parking adds extra cost. Complementary parking would have been nice. Oliver quite costly for what you get. Coffee machine no cups.

Great little spot just steps from a lot of Duluth's mainstays. Worked great as a home base to attend a wedding out on Park Point. The bed was ridiculously comfy, the bathroom was well appointed, and the little nespresso-style coffee machine became a well-used perk.

Fun coffee shops and retail shopping close by. The decore and ambiance of the hotel were wonderful. No real staff was onsite, but the gentleman who was bartending downstairs was very accommodating. we encountered a few too many "unhoused individuals" near by though.

We’ve stayed at The Oliver Inn multiple times and have always had exceptional experiences — which is why we chose to return for this visit. We were genuinely looking forward to another comfortable and enjoyable stay. Unfortunately, this most recent visit fell well short of expectations and came with a series of avoidable frustrations: * We received incorrect information for our door code and spent the first 15 minutes trying to contact customer service just to access our room. This delay caused us to be late for the wedding rehearsal we were in town to attend. * Our reservation confirmation listed us as staying in the Mary McFadden – Room 6, when in fact we were assigned Mary McFadden - Room 7, which caused further confusion. * The confirmation email also stated an 11:00 AM checkout, yet we received a text only 14 hours before departure informing us that checkout was actually at 10:00 AM. * The room temperature could not be adjusted below 73°, which made sleeping extremely uncomfortable. * The bathroom lighting was nearly nonexistent, and even basic amenities like toilet paper were substandard.

Swede Room 1 was freezing with a huge air conditioning vent blowing on the beds almost all the time. Had to sleep under multiple blankets with fleece vest on. I would avoid that room. Shared bathroom floors were dirty, shower drain full of hair, no paper towels in dispenser, ceiling tiles falling. Could not get Rathskeller staff to take our order - they just stood behind the bar eating, talking, looking right at us/ignoring us... So we left! The first floor bar staff in Snively's were great!
