There are abundant international flights to Italy. Its major cities and even small towns have airports, making air travel a convenient way to explore the beautiful country and its many famous attractions. Rome has two airports, Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport and Rome Ciampino Airport. Fiumicino is the hub for Italian airline Alitalia. Florence-Peretola Amerigo Vespucci Airport is the closest to Florence, and Marco Polo Airport is nearest to Venice. You will find that Italy flights cater to all budgets, and there are frequent low fare deals and cheap air ticket bargains. Transportation options from the airports depend on which one you fly into, but often taxis, buses, car rentals, and hotel shuttles will be available.
Weather in Italy is generally at its prime for visitors from April to June and also in the fall from September through October. August is often accompanied by high humidity, while winters bring snowfall to the northern and alpine regions and joy to skiers and winter sports fans. Coastal cities enjoy a Mediterranean climate with milder winters and hot summers with little rain, making them perfect vacation destinations. Italy flights are usually cheaper between mid-September and March and gradually increase in prices closer to Christmas. May to July is the peak tourist season, and flights to Italy and hotels are more expensive during this time.
Getting around Italy by train is ideal for visitors who are on a budget and traveling longer distances. Trains are not only prompt, but cozy and reasonably priced, and travel between domestic and international destinations. Long-distance buses and city buses are also cheap transportation options, and the motorway system in Italy is extensive and well maintained. Renting a car is a great way to see the lovely countryside and quaint far-flung towns. Ferries and boat charters are available for excursions to Sardinia, Sicily, and the Amalfi Coast.
Italy has without doubt some of the world's greatest and most historic attractions, not to mention tantalizing culinary treasures to match. It is home to ancient civilizations, world-famous artwork, grand cathedrals, and vibrant plazas, as well as lush vineyards and upscale seaside resorts. Although Italy's best attractions are too many to list here, some of the major attractions include:
