Millions arrive in Quito daily via the Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO) and begin a journey that might include hiking the beautiful Cotopaxi volcano, hang gliding, mountain climbing or white-water rafting in the Andes community of Banos. Others choose to partake in surfing in the Montanita region. Less adventuresome outings might involve visiting the large outdoor market in Otavalo or strolling along the Malecon 2000 river walk path in Guayaquil, to enjoy the view while touring museums and indulging in native cuisine.
The airport offers a taxi service, and public transportation by bus is also available. Guests often make arrangements for transportation through a hotel of choice. Vehicle rental companies are also onsite. Visitors may exit the facility in a rental car by turning onto the Ruta Collas, which turns into Interstate Highway 35, and travels southward to the capital city of Quito.
The Museo Nacional del Banco Central del Ecuador in Quito allows guests to get a glimpse of local history, by presenting a collection of ancient art and artifacts. The venue also houses other exhibits spanning a variety of topics that include technology. From the extensive carvings on the exterior to the gold leaf throughout the interior, the 17th century La Iglesia de la Compania de Jesus, or the Church of the Society of Jesus, remains a popular local attraction in Quito.
