I recently stayed at the Crowne Plaza for three nights, paying around $600 for a room advertised with a Lake Erie view. Unfortunately, several aspects of the stay were disappointing.
To start, the hotel did not mention that parking was not included. Upon arrival, we learned valet parking was the only option, costing $55 per night — a significant and unexpected additional expense.
The room itself did not match what was advertised. Although we specifically booked a room with a Lake Erie view, we were placed on the opposite side of the building with no view of the lake at all. In addition, two of the lights in the room were not functioning, the windows were dirty, and the bathroom door would not close at all.
We also paid for breakfast for two, which was supposed to include one entrée from the menu as well as access to the buffet. However, on the first morning, staff insisted we look at the buffet before they would provide a menu, saying we could only order an entrée if we didn’t find something there we liked. On the second morning, a different server told us that our breakfast plan included the buffet only and not a menu item at all, which was confusing and inconsistent with what we paid for.
Overall, the experience did not meet the expectations set by the hotel’s description or price point. With clearer communication, consistent service, and attention to room maintenance, this could have been a much better stay.
