San Antonio International Airport receives San Antonio flights from across the United States and Mexico. Incoming international flights to San Diego from other countries are routed through connection flights with Detroit, Memphis, New York, or Salt Lake City, to name a few American hubs. The flight between New York and San Antonio is the longest. The proximity of San Antonio to Mexico also contributes to the popularity of flights between Mexico City and Cancun. Nonstop San Antonio flights are available with many major U.S. cities. Philadelphia, Seattle, and St. Louis will soon feature non-stop services. There are many cafes and restaurants at the airport, and transportation into the city is available. Transportation options include rental cars, taxis, buses, hotel shuttles, and contracted limousines.
Located in southern Texas, San Antonio sees some soaring summer temperatures. Between June and September, temperatures have climbed well past 40C, sitting around the mid-30C mark as an average. As such, this is an unadvisable time to visit the city, unless you are entirely comfortable with the heat. Be sure to bring sunscreen, long and loose clothing, and a hat. Avoid staying outside for prolonged periods of time; this gives you the excuse for a boutique or cafe-hopping tour. The city is popular during Spring Break, around March, when temperatures are especially comfortable and wandering around the city is enjoyable.
The VIA Metropolitan Bus System is the public bus system that services the San Antonio region. Depending on what your destination is, there are several routes and special lines you can take. If you are heading to a suburban area, the Express lines directly connect to these regions. Skip and Frequent lines service the routes with more frequent traffic. Metro lines are usually hourly and are widely available throughout the entire city. Taxis are available via a phone call. Most of the popular downtown attractions are accessible within a day's walking tour around the neighboring districts. Cycling could be a great way to breeze around between cafes, museums, and shops.
