Massive May House w/Swim Spa, Shared Pool, Sauna

Summary:

Like all of our Wauhatchie Woodlands rentals, the May Family Home is the perfect mountain getaway retreat. This 6,500 sq. ft. home on forested land at Lookout Mountain features a heated pool, private swim spa, sauna, fire pit, trailheads, 4 suites, large kitchen, game room, deck with hanging bed, outdoor kitchen, and more. Accommodates up to 14 guests. Pool is shared, but no parties are allowed.

The Space:

Pets are not allowed at this property. Please ask about our pet-friendly properties if you want to travel with a pet.

The May Family Home is part of Wauhatchie Woodlands, a collection of quaint, tiny-home, rustic-comfort log cabins on a 14-acre wooded property surrounded by National Park land. The property is owned and operated by Timberroot, a small, family-owned business that specializes in creating rustic spaces that allow you to relax, recharge, and reconnect with nature.

Once the personal home of Frank, Nicole, and their children, the May Family Home is the largest and most well-equipped accommodation offered at Wauhatchie Woodlands.

This vacation dream home is flanked by National Park land and dense forest, with quick access to downtown Chattanooga, Ruby Falls, Lookout Mountain, and the surrounding area.

The kitchen is open to dining, a dining bar, a living room with a wood burning fireplace, and directly adjacent to the massive stunning sunroom with vaulted ceilings. You will love the real wood craftsmanship, contrast in stains and colors, and a combination of rustic and contemporary style.

The sunroom exits to a spacious back deck with a swinging bed, outdoor dining, and direct access to the private 14′ swim spa.

On the same living level, there is a beautiful bathroom shared by a queen bedroom and the kid’s room with a lofted queen bed and built-in slide. The slide room sleeps two small people up top and has a single bed below.

Across the hall is a beautiful queen bedroom larger than many master bedrooms and a stunning newly renovated bathroom. This large queen room has a TV, a small work desk, and seating for TV watching out of bed.

Down the hall are the two massive loft rooms. The river-facing loft room has a private deck, picture windows, separate shower & toilet rooms, a closet, and a spacious TV den. Up in the loft are two full/twin bunks that can sleep up to six.

The back loft room features two lofted full beds over a king. Also on this level are a sofa, separate shower & toilet rooms, and closet. Upstairs is the workspace with two desks and a daybed with Smart TV.

Downstairs is the massive main suite with a luxurious king bed, modern armoires, a wood-burning stove, and the media area with a large sectional sofa and a 65″ curved TV. The main suite also has a large bathroom with two vanities, a walk-in shower, a deep bathing tub, and a small cedar sauna.

Also on the lower living level is the fully loaded game room with a full-size pool table, ping pon top, foosball, air hockey, Smart TV, and a comfy sofa. The space also included a small fridge and freezer to keep your drinks cold while you play. Just off the game room is the laundry room with your private washer/dryer.

The May Family Home is in a compound with two other homes, the Blue House and Skyuka Chalet. The homes share a stunning, heated resort-style pool with an expansive flagstone patio. On the patio, you'll find lounge seating, an outdoor fireplace, and an outdoor kitchen with a covered dining pavilion (guests must provide their own propane and firewood).

Please note that the pool is closed during winter, typically from October to March.

Chattanooga is a city known for its railroads. There are active train tracks that border the property to the north and I-24 is about half a mile away. Please note that light sleepers may be affected by the ambient city and train noise.

The ground floor of the Chalet serves as the poolhouse for all three properties. Guests have access to the workout room, poolside showers, and toilets.

The May Family Home is more than just a house; it's a true forested resort just a tiny hop from downtown Chattanooga.

Pack' n Play Travel cribs are available upon request.

Sprout General Store recently opened on the Wauhatchie Woodlands grounds. Grab a coffee (fueled by Roasted Root Cafe) to start your morning, treat yourself to ice cream, pick up a map with activity ideas, and browse Timberroot merch and local goods—everything you need is within just steps of your cabin.

To make sure your stay at the May Family Home is perfect, our locally based Guest Services representatives are on-call from 8:00 am to 11:30 pm, seven days a week.

Guest Access:

You'll have the entire home to yourself during your stay.

The pool area and amenities are shared with two other properties, the Blue House and the Skyuka Chalet. The ground floor of the Chalet serves as the poolhouse and also shared.

The May Family Home is located on the edge of Wauhatchie Woodlands, a 14-acre property surrounded by National Forest. Guests have access to trails around the grounds, as well as shared pavilions, community fire pits, and playground. Please be respectful of other guests during your stay.

The Neighborhood:

Wauhatchie Woodlands sits in Lookout Valley, a scenic pocket of Southeast Tennessee tucked between the Tennessee River and the base of Lookout Mountain. It’s close enough to Chattanooga to explore, yet far enough to feel like you've escaped the hustle and bustle of the city. Reflection Riding Arboretum and Nature Center is nestled right at the base of the mountain with 12 miles of hiking trails and canoe rentals to paddle scenic Lookout Creek. Those trails connect directly up the mountain, where Rock City, Ruby Falls, Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park, and Raccoon Mountain Caverns round out the adventure. When you're ready for a bite or a night out, downtown Chattanooga is only minutes away.

There’s a lot happening in and around Lookout Mountain this summer. Rock City is running a season-long America 250 celebration featuring new art installations, mountaintop music, and Americana-themed events. The new Erlanger Park is only minutes away, where the Chattanooga Lookouts are playing their inaugural season with themed nights, fireworks, and live music all summer. Free concerts downtown run every Friday night at Nightfall in Miller Plaza through July 31, and every Saturday at Riverfront Nights at Ross’s Landing through September 5. Wauhatchie Woodlands is a perfect home base for all this summer fun!

Getting Around:

To make the most of your stay, we recommend a car to get around. Each of our tiny cabins can accommodate two cars in private driveways.

UBER and Lyft are available throughout the Chattanooga area, in addition to a number of local taxi services. Please note that availability may be extremely limited during peak times.

The city of Chattanooga offers reasonably priced parking on the street and in several public parking lots.

A free electric shuttle bus runs between the Chattanooga Choo Choo and the Tennessee Aquarium with stops at every block. The buses run every 15 minutes, Monday through Friday from 6:30 am to 10 pm, Saturday from 9:30 am to 11 pm, and Sunday from 9:30 am to 8:30 pm. Bus schedules may vary, please consult the Chattanooga Area Regional Transit Authority website for the most up to date schedules.

Bike Chattanooga offers bike share rentals at 42 self-service kiosk locations all around downtown Chattanooga. With over 300 bicycles and 50 e-bikes this is a great way to explore the city. Visit Bike Chattanooga’s website to learn more.

Interaction with Guests:

The May Family Home is equipped with a keyless entry system that make check-in and check-out a fully automated process. Full instructions will be provided prior to your check-in date.

If you have any questions, comments, or experience any difficulties during your stay, our team of dedicated, locally based Guest Services representatives are on-call and available to help from 8:00 am to 11:30 pm every day.

Amazing space for us! Five friends from high school (now in our 50s) and plenty of room for us to spread out but still be together. The kitchen had everything we needed and the host was super responsive. This is also a great place if you have kids. The train can be loud from the pool but we didn’t hear it in the house. Absolutely recommend!

Family getaway

Overall the property was nice. The rooms were great and the size was good. However, the cleaniness could have been a little better and the house could use some updating and a little TLC

Very nice stay for friend reunion

We had a great stay here. There is a lot of space and the house has everything you need. Beware, the turn into the driveway is extremely tight coming from downtown and it best to turnaround at the bottom of the hill instead.

Cool Place

The house was big. Multiple levels the game room was really fun. The rooms were very spacious! There were sugar ants initially but gone after we cleaned them out. The drive way to get t lol the house was intense but there was another part where we were able to turn around. Over all it was a really cool vacation home out of the way and perfectly secluded.

Family Retreat

The May Family Home is absolutely perfect for a large family or group of friends. Plenty of sleeping areas, lounge areas, bathrooms/showers, etc. The game room in the basement, the sunroom and the outdoor patio really put this property over the top! Our family loved it.

This was the perfect place. We had 8 girls so the size was absolutely perfect! The large sun room was so fun to be all together and relax. The only complaint is that driveway is extremely tricky but you figure out best way to do it!

Wonderful overall, but pool not private.

The house itself was great and the property managers were very responsive. The only negative was the slight deception of the listing related to the pool. From the photos it looks like the pool is private and only used by the May house.... in reality its shared with 2 other rental properties on site. And while it does list this in small print in the information section, its not evident from an initial browse on vrbo and was a surprise to us.

Christmas in May

Family trip with all the kids and grands - 12 total. House full but still plenty of space and beds left. Sun porch was great for the early morning risers while allowing others to sleep in. Loved the location, so close to everything! The train was not a problem at all and hardly heard it. Pool and hot tub were great! Would definitely recommend and would definitely stay here again!

Family Vacation - Roomy House

We spent spring break with my siblings and their families along with our Dad; the house was a great size for all of us. We had our separate areas but were able to gather together in the roomy family room, dining room and kitchen. Chattanooga was great and after a day of hiking it was great to relax in the hot tub and sauna; the kids enjoyed the pool. We would recommend the house for sure; our only caution would be the driveway which could be a bit tricky.

Amazing house to host a girls weekend

This house is made for hosting large groups that like separate space or want to all crowd into the same room. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Chattanooga & this house made our down time comfortable & fun. The house is a challenge to find, but once you find it, you find a gem! They even went out of their way to decorating the house specifically for us when I told them we are friends from our days at Auburn.

Place was great

When the worst thing you can say about a property is that the house was very cold in the middle of August it was pretty great. Kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms, large gathering spaces, great deck, great internet. Group of 14 guys for our annual fantasy football drafts. Place couldn’t be better. Only halfway negative thing is finding the correct way to enter driveway. Loved this property.

The description should indicate stairs

There has to be somewhere on the description of the place that there are several stairs just to get in and stairs throughout the place. We were all older women and we had difficulty going up and down. If you are young and fit it is really a nice place.

Amazing Chattanooga Getaway

Every year my family and I take a quick little Christmas Getaway. This house was absolutely perfect for our large family! The kiddos loved the bunkroom and game room and the adults loved having enough space! The kitchen has everything you could possibly need, plenty of beds, awesome swim spa, the massive tub in the downstairs suite was so great to relax in and so much more. The only sort of negative thing i can say is that you can't adjust the thermostat, but the temp in the home was fairly comfortable and there are plenty of blankets and wood burning fireplaces to keep you nice and warm on colder days. Its very convenient to downtown and just minutes from Ruby Falls and Rock City. It was a great place for our family trip.

Our Stay

This cabin is HUGE! Great place for multiple families. The kitchen was well stocked with EVERY kitchen/cooking item you could ever need! There are a few things that need attention: the washer leaks & is moldy, the toilet in the "pig" bathroom rocks when you sit on it. The temperature schedule on the thermostat is unrealistic to Summer in Tennessee as the temp rose above 80 in the "swing" room our first night. Overall it was a pleasant experience overall.

Perfect place to stay in Chattanooga!!!

We had an amazing Spring Break exploring Chattanooga with friends and family and could not have asked for a better home to stay in! Not only was the home super convenient (about 5 minutes from everything!), it had PLENTY of room for all 9 of us to spread out and have some space. The kitchen was well stocked and everything was in working order. We did have to call maintenance when the door lock battery needed replacing and they were extremely helpful and responsive. Super nice people! From the trail behind the house to the pool table, air hockey and hot tub, we were never without things to do. Truly a great experience!!!

Not really suitable for older people

It isn't really suitable for older people due to so many stairs and the need of steps in some places. The entry into the sun room would truly benefit from one step added. The main outside stairs are not regulation spacing and did cause a fall. In some of the bedrooms the beds were high enough a step up would be beneficial. For less senior people it is very nice
