The quintessential romantic mountain getaway for two!
The Dog House is privately situated on 300 feet of beautiful rushing creek and wooded trails, yet is conveniently located only 4 miles from downtown Boone and ASU, 6 miles from Tweetsie Railroad, 9 miles from Blowing Rock, and only 4 miles from the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The poplar logs used to construct the Dog House were cut, dried, milled and then assembled by only two men using a handmade boom and pulley system attached to a huge tree. Later, the cabin was renovated by a professional designer.
The inviting living area is centered around a stunning wood-burning fireplace featuring a one-of-a-kind burl maple mantel—the perfect place to relax after a day exploring the outdoors. Above the fireplace, a new 65-inch Smart TV offers excellent viewing from the living room, dining area, and kitchen, making it easy for everyone to enjoy movie nights together.
High-speed Wi-Fi, a selection of board games, and a collection of books provide entertainment for every guest, whether you're looking to unplug or stay connected.
Upstairs, you'll find a comfortable king bedroom with a full bath featuring a tiled walk-in shower. A second Smart TV provides a cozy retreat for winding down at the end of the day.
Throughout the cabin, you'll discover an eclectic blend of modern comfort and timeless character. Antiques, cozy blankets, unique artwork, and historic photographs create a warm, authentic mountain atmosphere and unlike any other cabin you'll visit.
The deck is as large as the cabin itself and features a gas grill and Hot Springs spa with moto massage. Stairs lead from the deck onto trails along the creek and through the woods. A stone firepit with Adirondack chairs awaits you by the creek, where you can relax and enjoy the expanded views of the waterfalls and creek.
The Dog House gained its iconic name from “Rubberdog,” the cabin's canine occupant who lived in the home at the end of the 20th century. Rubberdog gained his name after going under both left tires of an SUV in 1997 and sustaining no injuries aside from a small laceration. Years later, Rubberdog again preformed an amazing feat. Just before Christmas 2004, he went missing. After several days and countless attempts to locate him, the heartbroken owner suspected the worst. On Christmas Eve however, the owner received a call from his neighbor who lived across the creek. After returning home from a family visit, she discovered Rubberdog in her upstairs bedroom. Apparently, he snuck in while the neighbor packed for her trip and had survived alone in a single bedroom for nine days with no food or water. Other than losing a little weight, he was still in great health. It seemed fitting to name an outstanding cabin in honor of one amazing dog.
In 2026, some new pups (and their people!) entered The Dog House's story. Oscar, Saddle, & Norman invite their fellow dogs and their humans to enjoy a stay at their favorite place in the mountains!
