A homely, fully furnished one-bedroom apartment on iconic Princes Wharf. A genuinely spacious balcony, a calm internal courtyard aspect away from the street and harbour-edge bustle, unlimited WiFi, and a dedicated workspace. Walking distance to some of Auckland`s best restaurants. The Viaduct, Ferry Terminal, and Commercial Bay are all close by. A quiet waterfront hideaway in one of Auckland`s most iconic locations.
Princes Wharf has a particular split personality — the buildings facing the water get the postcard harbour views, while the apartments set back around the internal courtyard get something different but genuinely worthwhile: real quiet. This one-bedroom apartment sits on the courtyard side of Shed 24, which means a calmer, more settled atmosphere than the busier harbour-facing units, while still being moments from all the energy of the wharf whenever you want it.
The apartment is comfortably furnished throughout, with a dedicated workspace well suited to business travellers, and a kitchen equipped for relaxed self-catering. The living area opens onto a genuinely spacious balcony — one of the larger outdoor spaces in the building — overlooking the Hilton Hotel pool rather than the harbour, which makes it a sheltered, private spot for a morning coffee or an evening drink away from the wind and activity of the waterfront edge.
This is an honest, well-located one-bedroom apartment for guests who value a quiet courtyard outlook and genuine privacy over a water view, while still being seconds from Princes Wharf`s restaurants and the wider Auckland waterfront.
Princes Wharf has been part of Auckland`s story since 1929, when it was formally opened by Earl Jellicoe as a two-storey concrete wharf — at the time, an engineering first for the city. For decades it was Auckland`s window to the world: cargo ships from Britain and Asia, ocean liners bringing emigrants and returning servicemen, and during the Second World War, a working base for United States forces supporting the Pacific campaign.
In 1998, a major redevelopment designed by Leuschke Group Architects transformed the wharf while preserving its long concrete bones — six interconnected heritage shed buildings, including Shed 24, now house apartments, restaurants, and retail above what was once a working cargo dock. Today the wharf is one of the city`s most recognisable destinations, with the five-star Hilton Auckland anchoring the seaward end and free public viewing decks offering some of the most peaceful vantage points in the city, with sightlines stretching to Rangitoto Island and the Hauraki Gulf.

Princes Wharf is Auckland`s most iconic waterfront address — a historic finger wharf jutting into the sparkling Waitemata Harbour, transformed from a century-old working cargo dock into one of the city`s most recognisable dining, entertainment, and accommodation precincts.
A wharf unlike any other
There`s nowhere quite like Princes Wharf in New Zealand. What began in 1929 as a two-storey concrete wharf — the finest structure of its kind in the South Seas, stretching 1,280 feet into the Waitemata Harbour — has been reimagined into a striking mixed-use precinct where heritage bones meet contemporary waterfront living.
The wharf retains a genuine sense of place — six interconnected heritage shed buildings still span its long concrete spine, their architecture deliberately reminiscent of the great ocean liners that once called here. Today that history is framed by acclaimed restaurants, the five-star Hilton Auckland anchoring the seaward prow, and a free public viewing deck at the very tip of the wharf, where benches and an archway frame harbour views stretching to Rangitoto Island and the Hauraki Gulf.
Food, drink & harbour rituals
The dining scene on Princes Wharf is exceptional, and you genuinely don`t need to leave the wharf for a memorable night out. Somm offers serious wine tasting alongside its menu, Wahlburgers brings its famous family-recipe burgers right to the water`s edge, and a string of waterfront restaurants serve everything from long, unhurried harbour-view lunches to special-occasion fine dining — think fireplaces, sweeping outdoor terraces, and the sails of departing yachts as your backdrop.
The Hilton Auckland`s Wharfside Bar & Eatery runs daily happy hour discounts on house beer, wine, and cocktails from 3pm to 7pm, while the hotel`s breakfast buffet is a popular start to the day even for non-guests. For something different, Bellini brings champagne and opera music to the waterfront, Wildfire Churrascaria serves Latin American fire-cooked feasts, and The Crab Shack is the destination of choice for seafood lovers. Cruise ships still berth at the Overseas Passenger Terminal, connecting Auckland to the wider Pacific much as the great ocean liners once did.
The wharf`s character
Princes Wharf draws a particular mix of people — cruise ship passengers disembarking for their first taste of the city, harbour-side diners settling in for a long lunch, residents of the wharf`s apartments going about their day, and curious visitors drawn by the five-star Hilton at its tip. It feels more polished and considered than the boisterous energy of the nearby Viaduct, with a quieter, more residential weeknight rhythm that comes properly alive around events, cruise ship arrivals, and weekend evenings.
It`s a short, flat walk from here to the Viaduct Harbour, Commercial Bay, and Britomart`s cobblestoned laneways — multiplying your options the moment you want a change of scene — while the New Zealand Maritime Museum sits right at the base of the wharf for anyone curious about the seafaring history that shaped this city. If you`re staying on Princes Wharf, you have the rare experience of being surrounded by water on three sides, with the city rising behind you and the open Waitemata ahead — genuinely one of the most distinctive places to call home for a few nights in Auckland.
Auckland is easily explored from Princes Wharf. The Auckland Ferry Terminal is a short walk with regular services to Waiheke Island and beyond. Britomart Transport Centre connects the full train network. There is no car park with this apartment — paid public parking is available nearby in the Viaduct and CBD. Auckland Airport is approximately 30 to 40 minutes by car or shuttle.
Please note that this apartment faces the building`s internal courtyard rather than the harbour — guests specifically wanting water views should consider one of our other Princes Wharf listings instead, and we`re glad to help you find the right fit. For guests who value quiet and privacy, the inward facing aspect is a genuine plus.
