Cute hotel, great views from lobby bar and dining area. Took one star away because the sea lions outside the hotel are LOUD, hotel is kind enough to provide ear plugs and a white noise machine . For the price of the room, a warning in the room descriptions would have been great .

Clean room, helpful staff, great location. The sound carries a lot on the top floor. Shower door was strange because it doesn’t fully enclose the shower. The barn door into the bathroom was aesthetic but not great for privacy.

My wife and I have been traveling up and down the PNW coast for a few years now, and stayed at dozens of hotels. The Bowline Hotel in Astoria is our new favorite! We checked in, fully intending to leave and explore Astoria, but after seeing the hotel and our rooms we decided to just stay in. The room was beautiful, with a great view of the river, and nice decor, as well as a large bath. We ended up not even leaving our room, just ordering room service (which was delicious) and some cocktails (also fantastic). Our room faced the river, and we woke up early enough to watch the sea lions that sleep under the pier swim out below our balcony, it was a fantastic experience!

Great location and nice staff! Plenty of street parking no need to valet and walking distance to a lot of places. But the room is not worth $500 a night. There’s no elevator you have to carry luggage through a flight of stairs. Also there’s no closet in the room, the sea lions are too noisy and the strong smell of sulfur from the river was just overwhelming. Will stay in Seaside or Cannon Beach next time.

We’ve been coming here for several years for special occasions - it’s getting hard to justify the price when the quality we were used to just wasn’t there this time. The front desk person was very friendly and helpful, and even allowed us to check in a half hour early - which was much appreciated! No offer of champagne at check in like the previous several times - not a big deal! Most other staff we encountered were curt and felt oddly hostile. The room we were in felt a little run down. The fireplace wasn’t working at first, and while the front desk employee was able to get it working after messing around with it - the heat was touch and go all evening. The TV was also very glitchy and would randomly close out of shows and return to the main menu screen, or just turn off all together. One of the chairs at the little table area didn’t have the seat completely attached to the legs and was very wobbly, and the other had some pretty obvious and gross looking stains on the seat. The room was the second one off the lobby, and so it was very loud from the bar / restaurant - children running and screaming up the hallway late at night. We ended up getting engaged on this trip, and this hotel was our “special place.” We stepped into the bar area after he proposed to celebrate with champagne, but we were just stared at awkwardly until we were asked to leave because our dog was with us. (Totally understandable! But the way it was addressed felt standoffish and strange.) Really bummed.

Unique stay - right on the water, literally ! Marine life activities, walking distance to all places, fun barrel saunas on the dock by the water- if your a light sleeper be prepare animal life knows no time and they bark very loud at night
