I think my expectations for this hotel were raised way too high by what I think was a 9.4 / Exceptional rating when I booked it.
To be clear, there is nothing at all bad about it, and many things that were good. I just had very high hopes, which weren't quite fulfilled.
The main thing is that we booked, I think, a Superior room. I think it turned out that this was their entry level room. I don't remember the photos, but we booked 2 beds, and it turned out they were more or less single beds. That, and the room itself was quite small, without much space around the beds or in the bathroom. It wasn't "bad" as such, but it wasn't great. To be fair to the hotel, when I raised it, they did offer to change rooms for us, but I had to go back to reception to find out if they had any and, when I went, the queue was just too big for me to be bothered. That probably shows that it wasn't that bad, it just didn't live up to what I hoped.
That said, the service was great. We arrived early and they checked us in straight away, no problem. The downstairs bar was good. The breakfast was very good. Definitely worth including in your booking.
The location is good, especially if you're coming in by train as it's literally a 5 mins walk from the station. It doesn't seem like Uber can stop at the hotel, so be warned about that - it seemed they had to stop by the station - again, 5 mins walk away.
In all, I would recommend the hotel for sure.
