History

The first College World Series game was held in 1947 at Hyames Field in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The tournament did not migrate to its current home in Omaha until the 1950 season. In the early years of the tournament there were eight teams divided into two brackets, playing in single elimination games with the two remaining teams playing a best of three series to crown the champion. Over the course of the next fifty years the format and brackets would see several changes before they settled on the format that they have been using since the 2003 season. Today the series starts out with two brackets each consisting of four teams, with the remaining two teams facing off in the finals. To date the Texas Longhorns, have the most appearances (36) and the USC Trojans have the most titles (12).
