About CMT Music Awards

The CMT Awards are an annual awards ceremony where the fans control the outcome. Fans can vote for their favorite country music videos. The CMT Music Awards take place in Nashville, Tennessee. The award show began in 1967 as the Music City News Awards present by the Music City News magazine. In 1998 the Nashville Network created the Viewers’ Choice Awards which was a fan-voted awards show. On the show's 5th anniversary they merge the Music City News Awards with the Viewers’ Choice Awards creating the TNN/Music City News Country Awards. A few years later they changed the name to TNN Music Country Awards, the name change a few more times until 2005 when the shows name finally changed to the CMT Music Awards.
