Bogota, Columbia, should be considered a major departure from Fairfield, Iowa, in the sense that it's a large, sprawling urban metropolis, without a cornfield in sight. Visitors can pick up a rental car at El Dorado International (BOG), it's only a 20 minute ride to El Centro, the city's original downtown area. Not far from downtown is the area called The North, which houses most of the city's modern attractions.
Visitors will find there are 20 districts dotted throughout the city. Head to Usaquén, the northernmost district, if you have some time on your hands and want to check out some of the popular tourist destinations. Parque de la 93 is considered the trendy section of Bogata, and is an area visitors should make time to explore. La Macarena is where you'll find many of the city's famed art galleries, as well as a host of highly rated restaurants, such as Tapas Macarena.
The flight from Fairfield Municipal Airport (FFL) to El Dorado International (BOG), takes about six hours. Streets run parallel to the mountains from south to north in the city, with numbers for the calles (streets) increasing as you head north. If you lose your sense of direction, remember that the mountains are to the east, and are visible from most points in the city.
